About Cross Sound Church
Sunday Services
We meet on Sunday mornings at 10:00 AM at the Bainbridge High School Commons. Please join us as we get together, get
the Gospel, and then get out!
From the Pastor
Cross Sound Church is a new church for Bainbridge Island. It began as a prayer group in January of 1996, meeting in homes on the Island. In October of 1996 we had our first public worship service at Woodward Middle School. The average attendance each week is around 250 people. We are made up of both long-time Island residents as well as relative newcomers, from a variety of age groups and church backgrounds.
Cross Sound is not new in the structure of its beliefs, however. We stand with all Christians in affirming the Apostles' Creed, and with the Protestant and Reformed churches in affirming the teachings of the Westminster Confession of Faith. Cross Sound Church is a Church of the Presbyterian Church in America, a denomination which is national in scope.
Getting Together
A large part of our strategy at Cross Sound is to gather diverse people together in all kinds of different groups and settings with Jesus in the middle.
Getting The Gospel
Spend time reading God’s Word, sharing testimonies, and discussing how Biblical principles apply to everyday life.
Getting Out
Work with others to take God’s Love out into your community.
Our beliefs
The mission of Cross Sound Church is to be a worshiping community so filled with the grace of God revealed in Jesus Christ that we live out authentic Christianity in a joyful, caring, and compelling way...
Overflowing His grace into the lives of others...
Growing together as a family of believers...
Making a positive and noticeable difference on Bainbridge Island and beyond...
Here is how we aim to accomplish this:
First, Cross Sound aims to establish a vital link between God and the human heart. Our church believes the classic Christian tenet that a person cannot reach their fullest potential unless they establish an actual relationship with God.
High ethical standards or profound intellectual insight are not enough. The classic Christian message, called the Gospel, is that it is possible to have such a vital link to God the Father through Jesus Christ. Therefore, we will constantly be challenging people to consider the Christian faith and reflect upon ultimate and eternal issues.
We welcome the questions, objections, and problems of thoughtful people. We are committed to respond with honesty and intelligence, not hostility or condescension. While some churches are completely for those skeptical of historic Christianity, and others are completely for the militant and confident believers, we hope to see our services consist of persons all along the spectrum - those who are convinced, those who are perplexed, and those who are skeptical of the Christian faith. We revel in that diversity.
When a connection with God is made through Christ, it leads to a progressive transformation of both character and consciousness. At Cross Sound we hope to help this incremental growth in two ways. Our worship celebrations are designed to lead people into the presence of God. Further, every effort is made to help people into lay-led caring communities called Small Groups. These are small face-to-face groups which meet in homes, create friendships, and provide the setting for personal growth, discussion of complex practical issues, and support for personal difficulties.
Second, Cross Sound aims to establish a vital link between Christians and the community. A person who knows the Father through Christ develops new capacity, motivation and power for service in the world. We hope to be able to direct the energy of Christians into the needs of the community and the city of Seattle as well. We aspire to be a church for the community. We intend to accomplish this in at least four ways:
- Through ministries of compassion and service we aim to minister in both word and deed.
- Through marketplace ministries, enabling believers to live out their values in their professions with excellence and to contribute to the building of our society.
- Through family ministries, equipping and supporting families to grow together and build strong relationships.
- Through ministries of multiplication: We intend to be involved in planting scores of new churches throughout the Northwest and beyond.
We hope you will come visit Cross Sound Church and see for yourself what we are doing to reach out to our community, provide a safe environment for people to find out more about God and help believers to grow in Him.
