Latest Update

The 5/6 boys group will be meeting at our house this Friday, Oct 17th, after school. Sakai students can take the route 14 bus. Please send a note with your son if Sakai requires it for taking a different bus. I am planning to go by Sakai this Friday to make sure they find the right bus. This bus then picks up Noel at Odyssey who will make sure everyone gets off at the right place. Please let me know who will be taking the bus. Also, you are welcome to call after 2:50 to make sure they arrived safely. We’ll have supervised free-time until we “officially” start at 3:30. We’ll finish by 5:00.

Co-Leaders
I need some help in the way of a co-leader each week. The idea is that this is a “fellowship of men”. I am thinking of setting up a rotating schedule of Dads unless there are some of you that would like to be involved more often. Please let me know your wishes and availability for the dates above. There will be some prep time around activity and game planning. Another way to be involved is to help organize a special event.

Are any of you available to be a co-leader this Friday? No preparation is required this week.

Last Meeting Recap
We had a great turnout at our first meeting on the 3rd with 9 boys. We did a lot of get-to-know-each-other activities and discussed the topic of going on an adventure or journey. The underlying theme was about being on the journey to become Godly men (knights). We had a treasure hunt activity to illustrate this where they discovered they needed to have a clear destination, a map, a compass, and a team. We discussed 1 Cor 16:13 “Be men of courage, be strong” and what it might mean to be a Godly man.

This Meeting
This week, we are going to dive into Ephesians 6:10-18 which is about putting on the “armor of God” (a knightly thing). This will be the theme for the next few months and will lead us into the study of truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, and the Spirit. We’ll start with a focus on truth. We’ll be making “belts of truth”, listening to some Adventures In Odyssey segments on truth, followed by discussion. This dovetails with the topic of our adult small group – The Truth Project (biblical world-view), by Focus on the Family. We’ll also use materials from The Case for Christ for Kids by Les Strobel which addresses the question of whether the Bible is true.

$$$$
I would like to collect $20 for each boy to cover the cost of snacks for the rest of 2008 and the belts we’ll be making. I think the easiest way to handle snacks is for us to just provide them since many of the boys will be coming over on the bus and will arrive hungry. I’ll have an envelope and list by the door on Friday in which you can leave cash or a check when you pick up.

We’ll also be making other armor-related projects this year and I will send out estimated costs. I think it would be great to have the kids make something for each piece of armor, like a shield of faith. I’d like to end the series with a ceremony where the Dads (or Mom) present them with a wooden Sword of the Spirit and a framed copy of Ephesians 6:10-18. I have an example of one that is hanging in Noel’s room as a reminder.
